All-on-4 dental implants

It can be difficult to complete daily tasks when you’ve suffered from tooth loss. Things like chewing your food, speaking clearly, and smiling with confidence certainly become challenging. The good news is that there are numerous different tooth replacement options out there for patients with a wide array of needs. All-on-4 implants are a cost-effective, long-term solution for patients who are missing most of or all of their teeth. However, they do require a surgical procedure. Here’s what you can expect when it comes to your recovery process.

How Long Does All-on-4 Recovery Take?

For traditional dental implants, osseointegration can take several months or longer. However, with All-on-4, the osseointegration process is much quicker, though the exact amount of time the process takes can vary from patient to patient. During your consultation with your dentist, you will be able to discuss your individual needs and a more detailed timeline that you can expect to unfold.

How Much Time Will You Need to Take Off Work?

Most patients only need to take one or two days off work to get dental implants. If your job is physically demanding, you may want to take three or four, as heavy exercise can divert blood from the implant site and delay healing. However, every case is different. During your consultation, your dentist will be able to give you a more specific recommendation to meet your unique needs.

7 Tips for a Smooth All-on-4 Recovery Process

To promote optimal healing and prevent complications, you should be implementing the following steps:

  • Avoid rinsing with water the first day after your surgery. If minimal bleeding is occurring the following day, use a saltwater rinse.
  • Stay away from tender areas, as this can help to prevent irritation.
  • You should continue to brush, but be gentle and use a soft-bristled toothbrush.
  • Don’t smoke for at least two weeks before and two to three months after your procedure. This will significantly reduce your chances of experiencing a dental implant failure.
  • Stick to softer foods, like eggs, smoothies, mashed potatoes, yogurt, and oatmeal. Don’t use a straw.
  • Get plenty of rest. This way, your jawbone and gum tissue have an easier time healing.
  • Attend your follow-up visits. This allows for your dentist to monitor how you are recovering and offer additional suggestions.

All-on-4 dental implants are life-changing but getting them will require some patience. By using the tips listed above, you will be showing off your new and improved smile in no time!
